It's a Dog day

What a great Sunday. Warm, but probably the last of the 100 degree days. Not sure if I told you that last week Kiki went to get a hair cut, well not just one, all of them :). Anyway, Marty got hurt feelings cause he couldn't go for a ride in the car and we made it up to him Sunday.

After we went for breakfast to the Draft House, great food with a Midwest menu, we came home and packed some water and the dogs and headed for Mt. Charleston. The temp was already close to 100 when we left. Not unpleasant, breezy and that helped. Anyway as we climbed from around 3000 ft. from our elevation to the nearly 8000 ft. of the Mountain, it's a 20 mile drive, the temp dropped to 75.

This is part of the view from up there, trees and streams and the snow usually stays into late April and early May. We decided to hike to the falls, which is about a mile and a half, but only made it about half way there. Leroy and I were fine, but the dogs are out of shape. They were huffing and puffing, so we let them go at their own pace, stopped and rested a couple of times, but the second time Kiki fell we decided she had had enough and turned around. Of course coming back down she was all energetic, it was downhill! When we got back to the car they got a big drink of water and a little exploration time. Marty was all nose, sniffing everything and Kiki peed and pooped at least a dozen times, I swear. Needless to say they rested comfortably on the trip home. We took the long way back and went through Lee Canyon. What a spectacular view and change of topography. We pulled off and took some pictures of the changes from a vantage point that showed the valley below with dry lake beds and desert landscape. We then drove down into the desert an back home.
After we got home a nap sounded like a very good idea and besides that it was hot. Temp was 101 but still breezy. Went to the casino for a bit, then came home grilled some chops, watched the rest of the race and just vegged in front of the TV for the evening. All in all a great day! This last pic is of a cut log resting against a tree on Mt. Charleston. The pic doesn't do justice since the slope was so steep you couldn't walk to the log.

I guess there is evidence of people walking to the log, but we certainly didn't try it. Must have been people much younger than our dogs.

There is just so much to see out here and the expanse of the landscape is overpowering. It makes one feel insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for sharing our day with us. Later

healed and sassy

Okay, it's been about 10 days since LeRoy lost the round with the grinder. His lip has healed, the stitches are out, we took them out(mostly he did since I couldn't see them) and I think he must be about 10 years old. He healed quickly for an old guy and the scar is not even noticeable. He thought he should stop by the hospital and thank the PA that sewed him up. No need for a plastic surgeon, It looks great.
Not much of action type stuff going on, other than a melt down (actually 2) at work Thursday. I got the shaft again because someone didn't get a certification renewed that is required by our facility and now they won't let her work. Well Thursday was her late day and I was the second late person. There was a late case and usually only the first late person has to stay to do that, well with her lapse of certification, which by the way she knew was expiring weeks ago, I became the first late person. It also happened with another last Friday and I ended up working 11 1/2 hours. That about killed me. Anyway, that was another person and it always seems the Sheila and I are the ones picking up the slack for a couple of other people and frankly, I'm tired of it. My charge person knows that too and she is trying to take care of the problem.
The second melt down came when PACU nurse, (I'll call her Toni) accused me of stealing a pen. I have had the pen for months and it was given to me by another nurse. Well, the crap meter already being full, I threw the pen across the floor and told them to keep it I had another. The girl that gave it to me then brought it to the OR to give it back, which of course, me being me, refused. Told her to keep it which she wouldn't do, so I threw it away. I know seem stupid, but again the crap meter was full.
Yesterday was a day for Dale and I and I think my ESP was working quite well. We went to knit club, then the Olive Garden for soup and salad followed by bingo across the street at Red Rock Casino. We had no idea where we were going to eat until about 10:30 when something in my brain told me to have soup and salad and bingo at Red Rock. I told Dale it was an Epiphany and she agreed.
Much to our surprise, since neither of us ever won a game of bingo there, we both won. Dale won $100 first. I said it's my turn and sure enough it was. I won a game paying $150. It was still early in the session and I said I don't think we're done winning yet and low and behold I won the coverall for $250 and only needed one more number for the second chance coverall of another $250. But I graciously settled for the $400 and was happy for a change.
Leroy and I went to Joe's crab shack and casino hopping after. I was not winning the he was crabby, which means he wasn't winning anything either. Went to Fiesta and I was down significantly. I was ready to leave, found him playing a machine, sat down beside him, put $10 in the machine, (which he said he had just played and it wasn't paying) and was down to $6 and I wanted to leave. I hid the machine for $112.15. He was PO'd. I cashed out $115 and we came home. I ended up only down $7 for the whole evening.
He was a little pouty so I'm taking him out for breakfast this morning, then taking the dogs up to Mt. Charleston for a little hiking and exercise.
The weather is warm and sunny, but then we only get sunny weather 361 days a year, what would you expect.
I'll take some pics at the mountain and get those posted so keep looking. Later all. Kaye
