LeRoy vs. grinder

Well I cannot say our week has been uneventful. I have worked hard all week and that includes some ovetime, finally and there is still more to come.

Yesterday I worked from 10 til 6:30 and when I got home Leroy's car was in the garage. He was supposed to be at work so of course my first thought was that he had a heart attack and I would find him in the house. I walked in and loudly said "YOU ALRIGHT?" He answered right away and came walking out of the office.

This is what I found. Yep, that's Leroy. He was at work and a grinder bit into a corner of a square post and kicked out. Hit him on the chin and right arm. He got a ride to the hospital in an ambulance, cause his boss said he had to and fifteen stitches (10 on the outside and 5 on the inside) later they let him out. His boss is making him take a couple of days off and there is a drug test in the works of course, and in a couple of days they want him to see a plastic surgeon to assess the damage to the lip.
I sort of freaked out when I saw this mess and all the swelling, but he insisted he was alright. Well about an hour after I got home he was unsteady on his feet and sweating like crazy. Denied any pain, but I thought about callin the squad and taking him to the hospital but he would have none of that. Said he was just hungry so I fed him. He might have been right but I stayed hom from work today just to make sure he's alright. The weeping chin made it necessary for a towel over his pillow but it's 7:20 and he's still sleeping.
Dang, guess that means I have to go back to work tomorrow! I'm just greatful that he's ok, maybe looking at a little lip repair soon. The lesson learned here is that a grinder will win almost everytime.
Thanks all. Kaye

Well, I haven't posted anything for a while so let me catch you up with our lives. Work has been on and off for me. Most weeks i don't get a full 40 hours in, but that's ok in this economy. I usually get 36 every week. Our plastic surgery case load is way down, just no money for the extra beauty work I guess. Still doing lots of urology and foot woork, but orthopedics is slow.
I have been busy knitting when I get home from work. Leroy doesn't get home till around 9 so that leaves me lots of time to watch tv and knit. I told myself i would't do more than one project at a time. Yeah, right! I now have 3 projects on needle. One almost done, one half done and one just starting. Can you say obsessed?
The weather has been somewhat muggy lately. Humidity around 40% and tem 100 or better. Saturday was much better. Temp 103 and humidity 12% Very nice. I went to knit club with Dale and found out one of our very good friends is in the process, actively, of becoming a grandparent again. She could hardly think, it was 36 hours into labor, mom in New York, and Mamie was almost beside herself. She emailed me a pic and news around 5pm saying all was well and the baby weighed 6#3oz. Mom is an executive producer for shows on the discovery channel and it's her first baby.
Dale and I went to lunch at TGI Friday's, love that place, then to bingo at Suncoast Casino and I actually won $30 before going, paid for bingo and then won $100. A good day. Leroy and I went to Letitia's Cocino for Mexican food, very good, then went to Santa Fe Station and I lost the money gambling, but hey, I had a good time. Home by 10:30 and fell asleep in the chair knitting, of course.
Don't know what is on tap for today, but steaks are ready for the grill and I haven't talked to the boys in about 3 weeks, so I'll make that call sometime today.
Monday it's back to work and I'm doing sedation for one of my favorite Dr. He's taken a position in Illinois, so will be leaving sometime in September or October. I know he's going to miss me. He loves me, and why not. I give him a hard time and he's actually fun to work with, now that he knows me. He can be a real a-hole too, but that's part of his charm I guess.
Leroy got groceries for me yesterday and did all the laundry, what a guy! All that so I could go and play with the girls on Saturday.
We found out this week that a new administrator has been hired, our last one was Atilla and enough of us complained to corporate that they finally fired her 3 months ago, the good news of that is that she left town, had been fired from every major health care facility in town, and moved to Portland. They can have her, I'm not moving there. Our turn over of help during her tenure was more than 50%, most of which she fired. I would have looked for other work, but was afraid she would get canned and show up at my new place of employment, so I stuck it out. Good thing too. Just goes to show that enough squeaks will get greased. So here's to Leann. Good luck, good bye and don't let the door slam you in the *&&.
Well, that's about all I have for this week. I would take pics of my knitting projects, but they are gifts for the girls. We are planning a trip home for the Holidays so Ihave to get them all knitted and I'm working on socks for myself. I should do some for my brother and his wife living in Alaska. It's their first winter there and I'm sure they could use something warm.
Talk to you all later. Kaye and Leroy.

Is that lightening?

Well, here it is another weekend and the work week is finished. It's been feast or famine at work. One day 54 cases, the next 13. Makes for a mandatory day off, but this week I actually got 40 hours in, thanks to having a scheduled late day Friday. I had to work 10 hours but is made up for time that I had left early during the week.
Saturday was knit club and Dale and I went to play bingo after lunch, didn't win, but that's not unusual. Leroy and I went to Famous Dave's for dinner, thanks Roger for turning us onto that with you construction contracts. Then we went to the casino, and again I didn't win, but Leroy got his money back. I may have to borrow from him this week, HEHE.
Sunday we'll just stay home and eat left over Famous Dave's and I'll knit. Knitting things for the girls at home. They are turning out very beautiful, guess practice pays off.
On the way home last night there was lightening all over the valley. We even heard some thunder and that's the first time in almost 2 years out here that has happened. Very pretty at night to see the mountains back lit with lightening. It may be for only short bursts, but knowing where to look makes the difference. Kiki is paranoid with storms, so we wanted to get home to make sure she was ok, and of course, there she was on the patio, looking toward the mountains waiting for the next flash. I don't think it rained, if it did it wasn't much cause everything was dry this morning but it smells like a rain storm washed through. Have to be very careful when it rains in the mountains, no place for the water to go but downhill, and guess where we live. Yep, downhill. Flash floods can be a killer. Fortunately, we are not in a "usual" flash flood area and it would have to rain a ton to affect us. The property is landscaped and designed to drain away from the house so there should not be any problems.
Thanks, Mandy for becoming a follower. Love you.
I promise to get some pictures posted, I'm just not sure what you would be interested in seeing. I'll figure it out soon.

Monday, August 2, 2010

Well, here it is Monday and I haven't written anything in days. I'm really bad about taking pictures, so you might have to wait a bit for those. Worked really hard for 4 days last week. On Tuesday worked 13 hours, almost like being on call at the hospital, but then on Thursday, because I had 4 hours overtime and there weren't many cases, I had to take the day off so my check will bee 4 hours short. Go figure.
Spend the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, eating at restaurants, going to knit clube, lunch with Dale and Mamie (a friend from the knitting club), then to the best steak house we've found out here for dinner. Went to the casino and spent too much money with no return. Sunday Leroy went to the kiosk at the DMV to renew his car plates, nice to not stand in a line or wait for 5 hours during business hours for something so simple. We were so close to my favorite breakfast place that we went the for the second time in 4 days for breakfast and I have the same thing everytime. The Dutch Baby pancake, with strawberries, powdered sugar and lemon. Yummy! Leroy always gets the bacon pancakes and now the waitress remembers us when we come in. We spent a little more money in the casino and decided not to play there anymore, since they don't send us incentives and the machines certainly don't pay. Breakfast it shall be, and only breakfast.
Talked to Sam Sunday, guess Morgan thinks we're coming home for the holidays and told her to get our bed made. A bit early and that decision hasn't been made yet, but I guess we better start looking into plane tickets soon, don't want to disappoint Morgan.
Back to work Monday, but not such a bad day. I was second late person, but didn't have to stay, only 1 case left. Back tomorrow at 6am and it will be a long day. Over 30 cases booked. Will be very tiring.
Think I'll eat cereal for dinner and be in bed around 8. Now doesn't life in Las Vegas sound just too exciting?
Take care all. I'll work on the picture thing. Later.
